As I alluded to in the previous post, the Mall was fantastic...until we got home. See, Ethan hadn't had a BM in probably 4 days and had been working on it, but up til then, was unsuccessful. He was getting fussy in the car, but again, no poo. Well, we were unloading the car and laying him down to have a bottle when he started trying to go. Honestly, it was the scariest thing I think I've ever witnessed. He was sobbing, screaming, choking on his tears as he's trying to push what looks like a finger out of his tiny little bum. Thank goodness my parents were still here, so we all assisted in some capacity-Mom coaxed the dookie out, Dad held his legs, I massaged his belly, while Mark was our runner. We didn't get a whole lot out before he was sweating. We tried to get him to stop going for a little bit to take a rest break, then fed him his bottle. Meanwhile, Mom and Dad headed home but not before letting us know to call if need be. Mark and I fed him his bottle and he was good...for a while. About a 1/2 hour or so after eating, he wanted to poop again. This time, his bottom was a little more prepared for it and the BM's were just a smidge more passable. Even so, Mark held his legs this time while I was the poo police. I decided right then and there that I was calling the doctor in the morning as soon as they opened...
Fast forward to today...with his morning bottle, Ethan had a fairly normal dump. I still decided to call the doctor. After all, just because it was getting normal didn't mean it would stay that way. The clinic said they could get him in at 2:30, but with a different pediatrician. I didn't care...we took it and hung out til then, having another BM shortly after calling (that brought our daily total to 2).
At around 1:30, we went over to the clinic to see if we could maybe get in early...no such luck. Apparently the person before us got sick, so that took a little while to clean up. We got in and both the nurse and doctor were very kind and extremely helpful. While I love Ethan's pediatrician, if I ever had to switch, I would go to this guy. He was very proactive, rather than reactive. He came in and right away was like, "Poor guy...we're gonna fix it, ok?" I explained all of the above to the doctor who decided that rather than put Ethan on Lactulose, he wanted to try him on a very low dose of Miralax. We went to the pharmacy, picked it up, and came home. I decided that I didn't want to try a new medicine right in the middle of the day, so I figured we'll start it right away in the morning. Besides, while I was at play practice, he had a BM again, bringing his grand total to 3 today.
Please pray that this medicine works for our little bug...I don't know if he, I, or anyone else can go through another night like last night.
Merry Christmas 2025!
