Lately Mark and I have been trying to babyproof our home so that Ethan stays safe. While doing this, I must admit, we've spent our share of money on babyproofing supplies-plug covers, cabinet latches, corner bumpers, etc. Some have been great, but some either don't work with our home (which is not an old home, but not a new one, either) or they just don't work at all. For example, we bought these cool plug covers that were supposed to be babyproof AND be gentle on grown-ups' fingernails. Well, between our electrical work being really junky and our son being brilliant, Ethan figured out how to get them out. That's just like the corner bumpers. We bought them ($8-no joke!) for our computer desk. We put them on and they don't stay because our desk doesn't have completely right (90 degree) angles...it's asymmetrical.
I returned said junk today and got back around $25. We were gonna buy a few more things to help make the house more "safe"-a tub seat, safety ties for the outside of our cabinet doors-but I thought better of it. Some of it is great stuff, but it's also a ploy to get you to spend money. And babies are going to get hurt...it's just a part of life. All you can do is try to keep a better eye on them. So I think I'll take my chances, watch Ethan a little more closely, and use some things around the house (washcloths as bumpers). Besides, it looks like I need to "babyproof" the downstairs freezer-Mark keeps leaving it open!
Merry Christmas 2025!
