So last night, I had play rehearsal from 7-10:30. I debated whether to go out and have a drink afterward, but knew that I had rehearsal again in the morning from 10-2, so I decided to go home and get some sleep. I wrestled with setting an alarm for the morning, but know that I never sleep in and rehearsal wasn't until 10, so I figured I was safe. I had some water, watched "Friends," and went to bed. Ethan slept pretty well (woke at 3, slept with us for 1 and 1/2 hours because his room was so hot, went back to his crib, woke and cried for a little while before falling back asleep).
I awoke to the sound of Ethan moving around in his crib. I put my glasses on and looked at the clock-it said 8:50! Holy Bejebus! I jumped out of bed, got Ethan changed, dressed, and fed, hopped in the shower and got cleaned up quick before driving to practice.
Today at rehearsal, we were to work on the ballet. During one particular scene, Tuptim (one of the King's wives) and the other wives/priests put on a performance of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" for the visiting guests from England. It is very long and a ton of dance. We had a 4 hour rehearsal scheduled and I figured that would be enough time to get through most, if not all of it. Nope.
We got there and the director had us do a short sequence of the dance for him, basically as a 2nd audition. If we were good, we would be in the ballet, heavily dancing. If not, we would be a secondary dancer, but mostly be singing. I am sure you can figure out where I fit in. I was labeled a singer, along with my mom, a lady named Lisa, and a teen girl named Lauren. The director told us to hang out and that our part would come later...so we hung out. And hung out. And hung out. I read my new book, called Mark, bought and ate a Twix bar, practiced my music, read some more...and still nothing. Nothing turned into an hour. Then two. Then three. I was starting to get rather frustrated.
At around 1:15, I realized we were only through about 1/3 of the ballet and we only had 45 minutes left of rehearsal. Pretty sure our part isn't gonna come up today...I was right. At 1:35, the director looked at us and said, "Chorus, thank you for your patience. I wanted you to see what the ballet looked like...you're free to go." REALLY? I sat around for 3 and 1/2 hours for THAT? I was beyond frustrated...I had tons of stuff to do at home and knew that my in-laws were coming over in the evening, so I wouldn't have time to do a whole lot.
The evening was fine, but I gotta be honest...I'm kinda glad I don't have rehearsal until Tuesday. After all, I need a break from sitting on my butt!
Merry Christmas 2025!
