Hyde

Ethan is going through this phase where if he doesn't want to take a nap/go to sleep, he will cry, then SCREAM until you come and get him. Child experts will tell you to let him cry it out, which I'll admit, I've tried, but don't have enough willpower to withstand it for too long. Usually I cave, go in and get him, and either bring him to mine and Mark's bedroom or rock him in the recliner until he falls back asleep, then lay him back in his crib. I'm sorry, but at 2 in the morning, the last thing you want to do is let your 10 month old cry/scream while you're trying to get your beauty rest.

However, that being said, after bringing him into our room (again) last night and having him sprawled out between Mark and I, arms outstretched, laying diagonally so that neither of us have very much room to sleep, we've come to the conclusion that he's gonna have to cry it out.

I thought I would test this earlier today while my mom was over helping me with a few things. She laid him down for his afternoon nap, to which he cried, then screamed, then shrieked, then whimpered. When he gets screaming like that, we call him "Hyde," like Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde because Ethan is normally such a calm, yet social baby. He's never really been much of a crier, let alone a screamer. Well, Mom and I left him in his room for nearly 30 minutes. We tried to let him cry it out, but he wouldn't chill. We finally went in there after he had taken his pacifier and threw it across the room. He wouldn't lay down until just a little bit ago, after we had played with shredded Kleenex for 5-10 minutes. Tonight should be interesting...

I will recommend to you our sleep bible, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". This book saved our sanity. Kazmer was not a good sleeper -- but we learned how to sleep train him and the other two. All three go to sleep easily and on their own! Check it out:
