Being in my 4th year of teaching, I have acquired a lot of stuff. I've gotten some really useful stuff-books, teaching manipulatives, manuals, etc., but I've also collected a lot of stuff I don't/won't use or stuff that is just plain junk. This year, rather than throw it out or just pack it away for another year to see if I'll use it or not, I've decided to make a collection for the munchkins to choose from. They call it "The Garbage Store." I call it "Unloading Crap."Today "The Garbage Store" was open for business for the first time. I drew names out of a dish so that it was totally random. Every child picked something they wanted (only one had tears because their first choice-a lame storybook with a cassette tape-had already been picked). And I still have enough to "open" 2-4 more times! Crazy! So, if you are looking for really old, delapidated storybooks, random game pieces, or almost-empty notebooks, look no further than my classroom!
