Ethan had his 9 month checkup today (he was 9 months last Friday, but we were too busy worrying about his BM's to notice). His weight is now at 20 lb, 15 oz. (so almost 21 lb), which is in the 50th percentile. He is now 28 inches long (40th percentile) and his head circumference is 18 inches (40th percentile). He did not need any shots today (thank goodness), but the doctor and I did talk about Ethan's penchant for constipation. She said it is normal for children to get stopped up, but that he shouldn't be getting so irregular that he's crying from the pain of trying to go. She did say that some kids, regardless of how much food/liquid you give them, just digest differently and his body may soak up water more, hence his lack of consistent poops (just what you wanted to know, right?). Because this has been an ongoing, albeit sporadic problem since Ethan's birth, she gave us a prescription for Lactulose (a syrup to mix in to Ethan's cereal when he's having poo problems). We also did a checklist of "normal" development for 9 month olds. Aside from the lack of crawling (which she said is also completely normal), Ethan is right on track. She gave us permission to start feeding him "real" food (aside from the chokables-raw apples, raw carrots, raw grapes, raisins, popcorn, honey, and peanut butter). She also said Ethan is a very cute, very social baby (she commented on how easy it is to get him to smile). She said she'd see us around his 1st birthday, so we left, came home, and went for a walk. The rest of the night was pretty uneventful-ate dinner, watched "Dancing with the Stars," and hung out.
P.S.-Ethan is getting in 2 more teeth-no more fang baby!
