One of my students invited me to his performance of Prairie Fire Theatre's "Wizard of Oz" tonight at 7:30. For those of you who don't know, Prairie Fire is a touring children's theatre company. They specialize in kid-friendly plays that are similar to the original story but have cute, G-rated variations. Two directors-one male and one female, put the show together in a week (cast on Monday-performance on Friday). They also double as actors. Travis and I were in their production of "Peter Pan" in elementary school (I was a lost kid, he was a pirate) and Travis had the lead of their version of "Tom Sawyer" in 5th 0r 6th grade.
Anyways, Jackson was so excited to be in a play-his first. He was a munchkin. Every chance he got during playtime this week, he was rehearsing and singing the songs. Aside from him, there were 18 other students from STFX in the show. Despite feeling a little "under the weather" (girl troubles), I went the play. And let me tell you...how cute! They all did a great job! My favorite was the cowardly lion. He really got into his character and was very funny! It just makes you wonder, though, how many of these kids will stick with this hobby/talent and how many of them could care less but had stage parents that made them do it.
